University Ranking - Continuing Saga

In the past few weeks, you would find many articles and press statements written on the dropped in ranking for University of Malaya to number 169. (Refer to earlier blog on this).

Just go the malaysia-today.net website and read the letters and comments sections in particular and you could see a link with Assoc. Prof. Terrence Gomez's case, previously, and this one. The issue is that the Opposition parties, mainly Lim Kit Siang, has taken to task the Government on many aspects of higher education. I cannot find any academics defending the university, apart from the vice-chancellor, (unless an academic does it under a pseudonym) nor was there any counter arguments.

Well, the ordinary lecturer working at the faculty level would not know what to say, but they may have some indication by way of directives and policies from the central administrators section / senoir management. The best people to talk about this is the professors that deal with the policies of the university.

One such professor is Prof Rom Tamjis.
