Blue Anchor, near Penclawdd

Last November, we went to Swansea, and stayed near Penclawdd. The village was called the Blue Anchor and the accommodation was a group of refurbished old farm buildings called Blaen Cedi Farm Cottages. We stayed at the end cottage, and the surrounding 3 acres of garden was really too cold to explore, but inside, we had a lot of room to manouvre and a kitchen to cook rice or heat up some food in the microwave, as it was self-catering.

The Gallery Cottage had some of the timberwork inside reclaimed from a local chapel. The place was homely, warm and comfortable enough.




The photos above shows the end cottage and a motif near the top of the gabled end. The photo below shows the rest of the cottages (total of 3) and the far end (with the white 2 storey structure) was where Jeffrey and Marian stayed with Sophie the dog. Well, the thing about Sophie was, she got overly excited with visitors and scratched on our cottage door every morning, and Marian had advised us to just say, "Sophie, go home!" I did that a couple of times and it worked. Sophie was a big black Doberman Pincher and was a softy really...

There was one wheelchair-friendly cottage (the one with the entrance that has a railing and ramp to it), but somehow I did not specify that on the telephone booking, and got the end one instead. We were too tired to change cottages and had unpacked a lot of stuff already and I was too sick from having the flu, so that was that.

That was an interesting experience staying at a cottage in a small village during winter, with freezing weather conditions and will not be repeated again, because partly it was terrible when I had flu and had to drive in the fog and unfamiliar roads, but really, I did not have any choice, at the end of the day.
